Deal Making
A comprehensive overview of the methods used to negotiate and successfully close deals. This is a very hands-on MasterClass with delegates developing thier own negotiation style and skills.

  Exit Routes
At this annual MasterClass invited speakers introduce and provides an update on the status of IPOs on AIM and PLUS Markets as well as Trade Sales. All early stage companies from start-up must have a planned exit route strategy, so this MasterClass is imprtant for company founders as well as later stage companies contemplating exits. The MasterClass was not held in 2009 in recognition that few exits happened that year.

  Finance for Technology Managers
This MasterClass is for scientists and engineers who need an understanding of basic finance but who have received no formal training in the subject. Topics covered include financial structure of companies, cash flow, financial statements and investment.

  Market Forecasting
An essential element of business plans is a 3 - 5 year forward projection of sales. Forecasting markets for early stage technology is difficult, so this MasterClass covers the basic principles: sources of data, diffusion models, models with uncertainty.

R&D and Innovation Management (2 days)
Early stage companies are usually R&D based, but managing this function has received little attention, and can challenge those entering industry. This MasterClass provides a comprehensive overview of management topics: innovation models; team management; creative problem solving; IP management; financial decsion making. Intended for graduate entry to industry, and those moving to their first management position.

  Spin-out Formation
There is a lot of interest in Spin-out fromation from universities and the NHS. This MasterClass introduces what is involved in forming a new company: making the decision to spin-out; setting up and managing the company; business planning; sources of finance.

  Teamwork (1 or 2 days)
A significant difference between academic and industrial research is that the former rewards individual contrubtion, and the latter teamwork. Teams are how things get done in companies, but many technology teams operate suboptimally. This MasterClass uses a self analytic approach to team development, in contrast to the outdoor activity approaches which are fun but not very effective. During the MasterClass, teams learn the fundamentals of team behaviour by analysing their own team, and finding ways to improve team performance; it is an interesting and enjoyable process. Intended for newly formed, existing and underprforming teams.

Technology Valuation (1 or 2 days)
Valuing technology is essential whenever transactions such as licensing or finance raising take place, but is usually considered difficult for early stage technology companies. This MasterClass introduces the four basic methods of valuing technology companies, explains how to deal with uncertainty using Monte Carlo simulation, and condiers the effects of choice, Real Options, in valuing companies.
